How to care for your cashmere

Cashmere is one of the finest and most luxurious natural fibers in the world. This gives garments made purely from this material the virtue of always looking impeccable, no matter how much time passes. But be careful, to do so, you must make sure to care for them properly, as they require simple but delicate maintenance. Be sure to keep the following guidelines in mind, and your garments will reward you by always being perfect, soft, fluffy, and making you look impeccable.

How to use it so that it lasts?

When wearing your cashmere garments, try to keep them away from rough items, bags, jewelry, etc. These items, when rubbing against the garment, can cause pilling or worse, damage or even a hole!
Be careful not to spray perfume directly on your cashmere sweater, as this could leave a stain and attract moths.

What to do if lumps appear?

Pilling is one of the issues that most concerns us about cashmere, as it makes our garment look less than it should. However, we must accept that it's normal for cashmere garments to pill. After all, cashmere is the natural hair of a type of goat, and rubbing can cause some fibers to come loose. This is normal, and it also happens to the highest-quality cashmere.

Bel cashmere garments are made with the finest cashmere, and even so, it's possible that they may pill a little at first due to rubbing, as some fibers may come loose. However, unlike poor quality cashmere, good quality cashmere will pill less, and in any case, it will only do so at first. But don't worry, there's a solution!

Obviously, the less you rub the garment, the fewer pills it will produce, but it's clear that the garment is made to be worn, so if you notice pills starting to form, there are several ways to remove them. The most recommended is to do so with a specific product. Either with a cashmere and wool comb or with a de-pilling machine, which removes pills in a min

How to wash it?

Contrary to popular belief, cashmere garments don't deteriorate with washing. It's a good idea to wash them . Just like fur, they become softer and fluffier after washing.

However, it is also true that it is not necessary to wash them after each use; many times it is enough to hang them outside and air them a little.

The way you wash cashmere garments will depend on whether the garment is knitted or woven.

In the case of fabric, such as coats or scarves , dry cleaning is the most recommended.

In the case of the point , here we give you several guidelines, you will see that in practice it is very simple:

• Dry cleaning is not recommended for knitwear unless it requires special stain removal. Wash garments with a mild, natural detergent or one specifically designed for wool or cashmere.

• We recommend washing the garment before use; this will remove shorter fibers, reducing the appearance of surface pilling that can occur during initial wear.

• Do not hang a wet Cashmere garment as this will stretch and deform it.

• Always wash cashmere in cold water. NEVER use hot water, as it will shrink and clump.

• You can wash your knitwear in a washing machine or by hand. Hand washing is more delicate, but today's washing machines have excellent wool programs that leave the garment perfectly clean.

If you're going to wash your garment in a washing machine...

• Make sure to use a wool program (cold and delicate)

• If you have one, put the garment in a mesh bag to prevent it from getting caught in the washing machine.

• Don't use too much detergent. You can also add a splash of ammonia, which is a great cleaner and leaves the garment looking fantastic.

If you're going to wash it by hand...

• Shake the water and detergent before placing your cashmere garment in it, so that the detergent is distributed evenly.

• Press and squeeze the garment with soapy water, do not twist or rub!!

• Empty the sink or container where you're washing the garment and rinse it with water that's the same temperature. A sudden change in temperature can cause your garment to shrink.

• After rinsing, squeeze the garment until as much water as possible has been squeezed out. Do not wring. Keep the garment in a ball and press it with your hands.

• Spread your damp sweater on a towel and roll it up. Squeeze out excess water with the towel. Remove the sweater and place it on a clean towel or clothesline, making sure to return it to its original shape.

After washing, always let it dry flat on a surface . Never hang the garment.

How to iron it?

You can iron cashmere garments at a low temperature, turning them inside out or placing a thin scarf over them to prevent shine from the iron.

How to save it?

If you're going to store your thicker sweaters during the summer, wash them before storing them. Moths are attracted to natural fibers, especially when they're dirty. It's better to store clothes in cloth bags than in plastic bags, as they breathe better and keep insects out. Don't hang sweaters! Store them folded!
